Job Description

This position is an important part of the Institute of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Extension communications team at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. The Public Information Officer will collaborate closely with other IANRE and communications team members, staff and faculty, as well as the overall university communications team, to create effective and enticing communications contents, support Extension event-related communications and goals, edit and support the creation of various publications, communications contents and conduct effective media relations, and ensure the UAF branding, ADA accessibility and other related regulations are accurately incorporated into IANRE communications.


A successful candidate will have exceptional writing, editing, proofreading, and storytelling skills with the ability to produce engaging content on various platforms for diverse audiences. The position requires an ability to translate scientific, technical, or academic information into clear, compelling communications, and experience in developing content for print, social media and web platforms. Strong editorial judgment with experience reviewing and editing publications created by multiple contributors is essential. A successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills, and an ability to manage various processes often simultaneously, and create communications supporting public events and institutional initiatives.


Minimum Qualifications:


Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Communications or related field and three years of progressively responsible experience relevant to the position, or an equivalent combination of training and experience


Position Details:


This position is located on the Troth Yeddha' campus in Fairbanks Alaska. This is a full-time, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package . UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule , Grade 79, based on education and experience.
